Microminiatures

A microminiature is a miniature of tiny dimensions. They can be paintings, sculptures, engravings, jewelry or even art scenes. In short, it can be anything as long as it is on an extremely minuscule scale. So small, that it can only be seen under a microscope.

Creating such unique pieces requires not only great skill, but also the ability to control one's emotions and body, because the sculptor working on a microminiature has to work in between heartbeats. Yes, yes: precisely in between heartbeats. Akin to two blacksmiths, taking turns hammering metal on a single anvil.

The problem is, that each heartbeat, sends a strong flow of blood through the body, and this makes our hands, which are under the microscope, tremble involuntarily. This movement is only noticeable under the high magnification of the microscope, but it inhibits precise movement. Because of this, work has to be done in between heartbeats.

This technique is very difficult and there are not many people in the world who have mastered it; according to various sources, there are only 10 to 15 masters. These works are usually not for sale and are very rarely made on commission. Microminiatures can take from several months to multiple years to complete.
